A Special Place In My Heart
Kirkbymoorside is such a special place in my heart, as well as that of my sister, dad and mum. My grandparents and Dad are Yorkshire people born and bred, and kirkbymoorside was where my grandparents chose to retire due to its beauty and charm.
So every Easter, summer and Christmas since I was born and growing up- me, my sister, mum and dad would make the 3 hour journey to visit them in this beautiful village, we would explore the countryside, drive over the moors to York, Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby; visit Helmsley, Malton and Hutton-le-hole, feed the ducks at Sinnnigton; needless to say many memories were made on those visits to Kirby.
It is so accessible to other areas around that- my sister and I would love driving along the Castle Howard road, and we thought it was the greatest castle we had seen! I have also spent many hours in the market and the shops of Kirby, enjoying the pace of life and the friends we knew in the village. It was a shock when in 1997 when I was 10 years old, my Grandma died and within a few years, my Granddad followed; their ashes are buried in the older church in the village; a beautiful and fitting resting place.
As we had to sell the house we don’t get to visit Kirkby that often since they past away; it has been a year now; but it will always be a place I will return to with many happy memories.
Keep them safe for me,
Kirkbymoorside ~ A Special Place In My Heart.
