The Memorial Hall was packed to listen to the talk about Transition Towns on September 30th.

The speaker Naresh Giangrande first talked about why towns need to be planning now for a low-carbon future, and made it clear that life might well be far more pleasant then than it is now. He explained how Totnes, in Devon, became the first transition town, just a year ago, and since then the idea has spread to 250 towns and cities across the world.
Those present were keen that Kirkbymoorside should also become a Transition Town, the first in Yorkshire, and many signed up to form working groups to take the ideas forward.
Groups which are in various stages of being formed include Local Food, Eco-friendly Building, Exchange and Repairs, Transport, Waste & Recycling, Education & Youth, Health & Lifestyle, Heart
& Soul, Arts& Entertainment, Nature & Conservation, Local Economy.
