Title Former Ryedale Forge, Piercy End
Description

A gas works also occupied this site until its transfer to Kirby Mills in 1912. Christopher Carter who cast the massive shop front in 1863 started the foundry in the 1840’s. He also ran the gas making plant on this site and installed the original piped water supply in the town. The Dowson family had long associations with the forge and were renowned for quality wrought iron work throughout the Empire

Title St Chads Roman Catholic Church, Piercy End
Description The town’s early catholic worshippers met at a chapel in Tinley Garth from 1858 until the present church building was erected in 1897. It contains a reredos from Gilling Castle that was carved in the early 17th century.

Title Vivers Lodge, Old Road
Description This fine house once had garden and fields that reached down to New Road. It was taken over by the Army and used as the officers mess when a large army camp serving armoured regiments were based on what is now Queen’s Way.

Title Petch House, Howe End
Description The Petch family have had a long legal association with the town. This building was erected in 1785. Howe End was the main access to town before New Road was built alongside the railway track from Piercy End around 1920.
